There are a lot of misconceptions about the role salt plays in the regulation of blood pressure.
Many patients feel scared that if they don’t put any salt in the food, it will become tasteless. To them I say; we are not asking you to completely abandon salt, just decrease it to acceptable limits. Also, you don’t have to switch from a high salt diet to low salt diet overnight, you can gradually decrease it so your taste buds can adapt.
Also, a lot of patients say that they don’t add any extra salt with a shaker on their diet, so they are not eating a high salt diet but the fact is that most of the salt we consume is cooked into the food, not added with a shaker.
